Strategic Service Purchasing – A Jumpstart to Success

Like last year, during the course Purchasing at the RUG, 2 interesting E-books were written. YPP was already invited during the event, but now also the e-books can be read clicking the link at the end of this post.

Preface of the e-book “Strategic Service Purchasing – A Jumpstart to Success”

Whether we call it Purchasing, Procurement, Supply Management, Sourcing or Buying – it is evident that activities, tactics and strategies associated with such terms are of great importance to organizations. Looking at job advertisements, skilled and highly educated Purchasers and Supply Managers are in demand. Hence, academia and practice work together to further grow the function as there remain many challenges and possibilities for improvements. In line with the developments in the field, we asked 21 international MSc students to plan, write and deliver an academic book on Strategic Service Purchasing.

We proudly present the resulting E-book of this year’s project “Strategic Service Purchasing – A Jumpstart to Success”. Based on literature reviews as well as case studies and examples the students have worked on different themes with the joint ambition to describe and discuss the state of the art of Strategic Service Purchasing today. While the book focuses on the developments in Strategic Service Purchasing and Supply Management it might also provide a presentation of a coming generation of purchasing professionals.

The course and the book could not have been realized without the support of the companies and people who kindly contributed their time for guest lectures and further information:
Sander Koopmans (Adjust), Hans Bax (UMCG), Ad Weterings (Gasunie) and Bauke Wierda (Koopmans).

Finally, we would like to thank all students involved. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, eagerness, cooperation and perseverance made it possible to carry out this book project (and in only 7 weeks)!

Introducing Elske Muijs

Elske Muijs started her studies with a Bachelor Degree in Health Sciences at Wageningen University and made a switch to International Management for a Master’s degree at Nyenrode Univeristy. During her studies she spent half a year in Almeria, Spain, to follow classes in marketing and to learn Spanish. She also worked in Zambia for a year at a travel agency. Her interests in technology developed during her Master program when she wrote her thesis for a material handling company. Currently she works at FrieslandCampina as a capital expenditure buyer and is responsible for tendering different investment projects. Her coincidental introduction to procurement made her an immediate enthusiast and after visiting several YPP events she decided to join the board in June 2015.

YPP Event ‘Business Model YOU’ a great success!

On May 7th BOOZZT hosted the YPP Event ‘Business Model YOU’.  Young Procurement Professionals from very different organisations jointly reflected on their development goals and designed their personal business plans. Ideas were shared, original questions were asked and by the end of the session participants stated they were highly inspired! We thank all YPP’ers for their active participation. Now, keep up the good work! Elaborate your BMY even further – it would be an honour to hear about the progress you’ve made!

Looking back @ Company Clinic Holland Casino

On Tuesday May 19th the first YPP members participated in a Company Clinic at Benefit. Holland Casino was invited to share their interesting journey of the last years. Maarten Bougie, Procurement Manager of Holland Casino, gave a presentation on the challenges that the procurement department of Holland Casino faces and how his team adapted to the new restructured organization.

After the presentation the group was split for two workshops. In interactive sessions Holland Casino challenged the participants to contribute in discussions on the following topics:

– How can a central procurement organization contribute to local entrepreneurship?

– Selling procurement to the internal organization.

After a short recap of the workshops the official part of the Benefit Company Clinic ended and it was time for drinks.

On behalf of Benefit and YPP we would like to thank Maarten and his team for the interesting session.

YPP is looking for a new female board member

English below

After three beautiful years in the YPP Elske Kleijn will be leaving our board. This means, at the moment we are looking for a new enthusiastic board member to join our team as of the end of Q2/ start of Q3 this year. To keep some balance in the board formation this time we are looking for a female candidate.

To give you a general impression of what you can expect as a board member:

  • once a month we arrange a meeting to discuss the actual status (events, planning, members, promotion, financial status, etc.)
  • we aim to organize 6 to 8 events per year (including our annual YPP Conference); hereby every board member leads one or two events.
  • as board we continuously seek ways to get our area of professionto to a higher level, together with our members.
  • next to the hours together you’ll be busy planning and guiding your event, have meetings in your role with i.e. interested parties and Nevi, promotion, the website, etc.
  • on average this board function will take up 10 hours a month, surely increasing around some events.

What we are looking for? – Like indicated, in the first place an enthousiastic person, who next to that at least has an affinity with Procurement and/or Supply Chain Management, has some spare hours a month to spend with YPP, and has a good command of the English language.

Interested?! Please send us your motivation ( max 1 A4) by email toypp.youngprocurement@gmail.com before the 17th  of May 2015. You can also email us in case you would like more information first. After interviews with one or several candidates we plan to select our new board member in May/June!

Kind regards,

YPP Board
